From Bakersfield to Beale Street: a regional history of american rock 'n' roll (Kendall-Hunt, 2006) is new text by David Stuart and Ryan Sheeler.  The text covers the development of rock music roughly from 1940-1980 and slightly beyond.  The text focuses on regional centers such as Memphis, Nashville, Bakersfield, Chicago, Kansas City, New York, Los Angeles and other similar locales in its discussion of rock music.  In addition, the text discusses the indigenous forms of American music that created rock:  blues, folk, jazz, country, Appalachian music, Gospel, and Tin Pan Alley pop.   The book features listening guides for approximately 10-12 songs for each chapter; covering a wide span of the greatest songs of each era.
